About Santiniketan Polytechnic

The Santiniketan Polytechnic (often searched as Shanti Niketan) is a well-known technical college in Durgapur that frequently serves as a large-scale examination hub for online competitive tests. It is located on Nachan Road in the Kamalpur area, which is slightly removed from the dense urban core of the Durgapur Steel Plant township. This location is particularly advantageous for candidates as it offers a quiet, academic atmosphere with minimal noise pollution. The campus is quite expansive with clear signage, making it easy to navigate once you reach the main gate. While it is on the outskirts, the center is well-connected by the city's main arterial roads, and the presence of the Kamalpur Post Office nearby serves as a reliable landmark for anyone arriving by local transport.

How To Reach Santiniketan Polytechnic

Comprehensive location and transport guide

Nearest Airport

  • Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP): Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP) in Andal, Durgapur, is the closest airport, situated roughly 18–20 km from the polytechnic. However, if you are flying from a city with limited direct connectivity to Andal, the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata is the main alternative, located about 175 km away.
  • How to reach: From the Durgapur (Andal) airport, the most practical way to reach the center is by hiring a private taxi or booking an Ola/Uber. The drive takes about 40 minutes. If you arrive at the Kolkata airport, it is best to take a train from Howrah or Sealdah to Durgapur, or board an air-conditioned Volvo bus from the airport’s bus stand directly to Durgapur.

Railway Station

  • Durgapur Railway Station (DGR): The Durgapur Railway Station (DGR) is the primary railway station, located approximately 12 km from the exam center. A typical commute from the station to the polytechnic takes about 30–35 minutes.
  • How to reach: After exiting the station, head to the prepaid auto stand or the general auto line. You can take a direct auto-rickshaw to Kamalpur/Santiniketan Polytechnic. A private auto will cost you roughly ₹150–₹220, while shared autos (which may require a change at City Centre) will cost around ₹40 in total.

Bus Connectivity

  • Main Bus Stand: The Durgapur City Centre Bus Terminus is the main transit point, located about 8 km from the college. Locally, the Kamalpur More Bus Stop on Nachan Road is the closest drop-off point, just a short walk from the campus entrance.
  • Bus Route: Local mini-buses running on the Prantika–City Centre or Station–Kamalpur routes are very frequent. You can board any bus headed toward Nachan Road or Kamalpur. These local buses are very budget-friendly, with fares usually ranging from ₹10 to ₹20.

Local Taxi / Auto

  • App-based services: Ola and Uber are active in Durgapur, though their availability can be slightly lower in the early morning hours compared to metro cities. Rapido (bike taxi) is a very popular and faster alternative for solo students. App-based bike taxis typically start at ₹45, while a full-car cab from the station to the venue will range between ₹250 and ₹350.

I recently visited here, I had my SSC CGL exam in this centre, this location is in very odd place, transport system is very bad if you are lucky only then you can get direct bus from prantika, there is not a single tea shop near this centre.
Now coming to the point of mismanagement of this centre as well as educuity

During the registration process, the power supply was disrupted three times, which caused a considerable delay in registration and consequently resulted in the late commencement of the examination. Furthermore, during the exam, candidates were asked to sign the attendance sheet.

After the exam, during the exit verification process, the admit cards of five candidates were lost by the authorities, and as a result, we were not allowed to exit on time. This led to unnecessary harassment and mental stress for all concerned.

I had my CHSl exam here. It is located in outskirts of the the durgapur. This institution houses three different institutes, one of then is Shantiniketan polytechnic. Bus service to this place is rarely available. Only option is rapido or auto.
To reach here on time, depart 1-2 hour before.
From city centre, take auto to khatu shyam mandir. And from there take auto to the this institution.
